eLearning and Scheduled Early Release Information

This page has current information on the district's eLearning days, including how many have been used this school year, live learning schedules if synchronous learning days are needed, and the eight scheduled two-hour early release days for teacher professional learning.

Early release days are scheduled in advance and are not weather-related. For information on weather delays, cancellations, and how those decisions are made, visit the Delays and Cancellations page.

Currently, LPCSC has three posted lesson days allowed by the Indiana Department of Education for the 2026-2027 school year.

  • The number of eLearning days involving instruction that is not face-to-face is limited to three days. This format is referred to as “Posted Lessons” and is similar to what we used in the past on eLearning and weather cancellation days. Assignments will be posted online for students to complete, and teachers will be available during office hours to provide assistance if needed.
  • Live eLearning days must include at least 50% face-to-face instruction to count as one of the required 180 school days. Face-to-face instruction is defined as “instruction delivered live electronically in real time by the student’s teacher.“ This form of instruction is also referred to as “Live Instruction” provided by a teacher to a student via Google Meet or Loom.

Students who have difficulties with their assignments or issues that prevent them from completing their work should communicate with their teacher as soon as possible. If you need technical assistance with logging in or help with your Chromebook, please email elearning@lpcsc.k12.in.us. Please note we are unable to assist with complications that may arise from your home internet provider.

Early Release Days for Professional Learning

The Indiana State Board of Education has approved a 1003 Flexibility Waiver for La Porte Community School Corporation, allowing the district to build eight two-hour early release days into the 2026-27 school calendar. The days run from September through April and are set aside for Professional Learning Community (PLC) collaboration.

PLC time gives teachers at each building structured time to review student work, study data, and plan instruction together. LPCSC is in the first year of a districtwide transition to the PLC model.

What this means for families

On each scheduled early release day, students are dismissed two hours earlier than usual. Arrival and start times do not change, lunch is still served, and the school day runs as normal until dismissal. Buses will also run two hours earlier than their regular afternoon routes. After-school athletics and clubs vary by building and program, and coaches and sponsors will share details about practices, activities, and events scheduled that day.

After School Care

Students enrolled in before- and after-school childcare will follow their usual routine on early release days. Care begins when students are dismissed, and pickup times do not change.

Students in YMCA childcare at Boston will ride their regular bus to Boston. Students in YMCA childcare at Crichfield Elementary will remain at Crichfield. Students in Boys & Girls Club programs at Hailmann Elementary, Kingsford Heights Elementary, and Kesling Intermediate will follow their normal procedures at those sites. Handley Elementary students who ride to Hailmann will continue to ride to Hailmann for Club. Club times remain the same.

If your child's dismissal plans change on an early release day, please notify both your child's school and your childcare provider. The school and the provider keep separate attendance records, and telling only one leaves the other expecting your child. Contact your school office to report a change, and contact the YMCA or the Boys & Girls Clubs directly to report a change in childcare attendance.

Early release dates for 2026-27

Early release days fall on the second Wednesday of each month from September through April:

All eight dates are also listed on the district calendar. Families will receive a ParentSquare reminder the week before each early release day.

Building schedules

Dismissal times differ by building. Elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school schedules are posted on each school's website.

If weather affects an early release day

If the district calls a two-hour delay on a day already scheduled for early release, the early release is canceled, and school dismisses at its regular time. The cancellation will be included in the same ParentSquare message announcing the delay. If school is canceled or shifts to eLearning that day, the early release does not apply.
